About Nina L. Hawkinson

Nina L. Hawkinson is Counsel at Park Lawless & Tremonti and an experienced litigator with more than fifteen years of practice handling complex, high-exposure litigation. Nina has extensive experience defending corporate clients in various areas. She is known for delivering practical, business-focused legal counsel in fast-paced and high-visibility matters.

At Park Lawless & Tremonti, Nina is a trial lawyer that defends automotive manufacturers in Song-Beverly cases, including those where consumers allege fraud and unfair business competition under Business and Professions Code section 17200. She handles all aspects of these cases, from initial pleadings to trial.

Prior to joining the firm, Nina spent more than seven years at a prominent California litigation firm where she served as both an associate and later a partner, acting as outside litigation counsel to the world’s leading producers and providers of entertainment, media, and information. Her work included executive leadership on litigation strategy, risk mitigation, and dispute resolution. Nina’s experience spans all phases of litigation and she has drafted appellate writs accepted for review by the California Court of Appeal.

In addition to her litigation practice, Nina currently serves as a volunteer mediator with the Los Angeles Superior Court’s Mediation Volunteer Panel, mediating matters involving personal injury, landlord-tenant disputes, and breach of contract claims. Occasionally,

Outside of her professional endeavors, Nina is focused on spending time with her dog and in the outdoors pursuing extreme and adventure sports, especially downhill skiing and SCUBA diving.

Nina has extensive experience in litigating complex civil matters in state and federal courts, directing cases from inception through trial. She also previously led a law and motion practice within her prior firm.

Early on in her career, Nina was involved in the pre-litigation stages of a bad faith claim that resulted in a $5 million compensatory and punitive damages award after a seven-day trial.

Nina has litigated breach of contract and related commercial disputes, with a focus on contract interpretation, indemnification, liability, and damages.  She has enforced and defended contractual rights through all phases of litigation.

Nina has extensive experience in litigating personal injury claims involving negligence and premises liability, spanning matters from routine trip-and-fall incidents to complex injury cases arising from theme park attractions, as well as catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and traumatic brain injury claims.   Her strategic focus was to position cases for early resolution or prepare a defense for trial and extended through discovery and motion practice.

Nina has defended manufacturers and distributors in products liability actions involving alleged design, manufacturing, and warning defects. She developed expert-driven strategies and led cases through dispositive motions and trial.

Nina prepared negotiation packages for recipients of failed cochlear implants, nationally, that led to multi-million-dollar group settlements.

Nina has litigated landlord-tenant and property disputes involving lease agreements, habitability, rent control, and eviction-related claims. She has advised on Ellis Act issues and zoning disputes involving homeowners’ associations, developers, and municipalities.

Nina second-chaired a jury trial in a Wrongful Eviction matter, for a violation of the LARSO, that resulted in a $200,000 jury verdict after a six-day trial.

Litigates business disputes involving unfair competition, fraud, and related commercial claims. Advises on risk and strategy while advancing clients’ business objectives through litigation.

Nina second-chaired a jury trial in a breach of contract and failure to disclose action against the prior owner of an income-generating property in Venice, CA, resulting in a $250,000 compensatory and punitive damages award after a seven-day trial.

Nina has litigated environmental and regulatory matters involving compliance and liability issues.  She helped develop defensible strategies in technically complex cases.

Nina has litigated matters involving data privacy, cybersecurity, and related regulatory and civil claims.  She has defended companies against claims arising from data breaches and alleged misuse of information.

Nina represents clients in mediation and arbitration as an alternative to litigation.  She is also a certified and practicing mediator through the Los Angeles Superior Court and Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, bringing a neutral’s perspective to the strategic resolution of disputes.
